︎ Proposal: Kingston Concert Hall
︎ Date: May 2023
︎ Location: Kingston Upon Thames
In response to the lack of character prevalent in modern residential tower blocks, the proposed concert hall with residential housing in Kingston emerges as a visionary solution that celebrates both architectural innovation and community spirit. Inspired by the historical charm of medieval bottle kilns, this project seamlessly integrates past influences with contemporary functionality, offering a transformative space that is vital to the community.
The concert hall, serving as the architectural centerpiece, captures the essence of harmonious living and artistic expression. By repurposing the bottle kilns into a theater in the round and a rehearsal space, the design revitalizes the heritage of the area while addressing the need for intimate and immersive performance venues. This visionary approach goes beyond the ordinary, fostering a deep sense of character and identity within the community.
Surrounding the concert hall, the residential housing for musicians and staff exemplifies the project's commitment to infusing character into modern living spaces. As an antidote to impersonal tower blocks, the design provides a nurturing environment that encourages meaningful interactions, artistic collaboration, and a strong sense of belonging. By blending shared spaces with private sanctuaries, the residential component becomes a vibrant community that breathes life into the project and celebrates the unique qualities of each individual.
